Hoodie Up: The Mentality Behind Training in A Hoodie at TA Boxing

hoodie training and leaning into discomfort

Why We Hoodie Up at TA Boxing

At TA Boxing, training in the hoodie isn’t for the aesthetic, it’s part of the mentality. Every time we throw the hoodie on, we’re preparing our minds for battle, intentionally stepping into discomfort, and that’s the whole point.

Wearing a hoodie during training creates an uncomfortable physical state. It’s hotter, heavier, and harder to move in. But in that discomfort, something powerful happens: we find comfort. We lock in. We lean into the grind. That’s what separates our training from just working out.

Coach Tom puts it like this:

“It adds a layer of difficulty to training and really brings a hungry dog mentality to give it your all each session. If I can train high-level in a hoodie, imagine what I can do without one.”
It’s true… take away the extra weight and heat, and you’re left with raw elevated performance under pressure.

Coach Bang says:

“It helps preach mental toughness. There’s no better feeling than grinding through the work, then peeling that soaked hoodie off at the end. You earned that.”
It’s more than sweat, it’s a symbol of resilience.

Coach Dan adds:

“It pushes you. It challenges me mentally. Some days you want to take it off, but you don’t. That’s the win.”
We train to overcome, not escape!

Coach Ki keeps it simple but powerful:

“Lock in. Horse with blinders.”
That’s the hoodie mindset… Tunnel vision! No distractions! Just you vs. you!

TA’s Hoodie Up Culture

At TA, hoodie training is part of the culture and is respected by those in our community. It represents the mindset you’re building every session… pushing through the heat, fighting through the fatigue, and staying locked in until the work is done. It’s about embracing the uncomfortable, because growth in anything never comes easy! The hoodie becomes a symbol of your commitment, discipline, and mental toughness. Every time you hoodie up you become sharper, tougher, and more focused.

We don’t wear it for show. We wear it to grow.
