It’s easy to get excited about starting something new and immediately want to jump into action. New diet, new workout plan, new goals, let’s get going! I understand that feeling, but before deciding where you’re going, it helps to really understand where you’re starting.
Especially while taking a GLP-1, everybody’s journey is going to look a little different. Your current activity level, nutrition, strength, body composition, sleep, stress, lifestyle, and even your experience with exercise all play a role in what your approach should look like. What works perfectly for one person may not make much sense for the next.
Start With You
This is why I put so much value into an initial assessment. It’s not about finding everything that’s “wrong” with you. It’s about gathering information so we can make better decisions moving forward. Think about it this way: if I don’t know where you’re starting, how can I confidently tell you where we should go?
At Training Aspects, I like to look at more than just your weight. Body composition, movement quality, strength, nutrition habits, goals, and lifestyle can all give us useful information. We can then take those pieces and begin creating an approach that actually fits you, rather than handing you a generic plan and hoping for the best.
Give Yourself Something to Compare
Maybe a few months from now your weight hasn’t changed as dramatically as you expected, but your body fat has decreased, you’ve maintained muscle, you’re stronger, and movements that were once difficult feel completely different. Without knowing where you started, some of that progress can be pretty easy to miss. This connects directly to what I talked about in the last article.
The more useful information we have, the better we can understand your progress and make adjustments along the way. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you start. That’s part of what guidance is for. Understand where you are, figure out where you’d like to go, and build from there.
