You’ve been consistent with your nutrition, getting your workouts in, and starting to feel like you’ve found a routine that works, then life happens. Work gets busy, you go on vacation, family needs your attention, or maybe you just have a rough week and some of those habits fall to the side. It’s frustrating and all too familiar, especially when you were finally starting to build some momentum. I’m here to remind you that getting knocked off track doesn’t necessarily mean you’re suddenly back at the beginning. Whether you’re taking a GLP-1 or working toward any other health and fitness goal, life isn’t going to perfectly cooperate with the plan you’ve made for yourself. The goal isn’t to somehow avoid every interruption. It’s learning what to do when one happens.
Don’t Try to Fix Everything at Once
One missed workout or habit can easily turn into a missed week when we allow our thoughts to spiral. One thing doesn’t go as planned and suddenly it feels like the entire day is ruined. That’s an all-or-nothing thought process that is too easy to get trapped into. It gives one decision way more power than it deserves. And at the end of it all, you know YOU deserve better.
Instead, ask yourself something more simple: What’s one thing I can get back to today? Maybe it’s your next meal. Maybe it’s drinking enough water. Maybe you get a walk in or simply schedule your next workout. You don’t need to fix the entire week in one afternoon. The pressure of catching up on what you were “left behind” on is all encompassing and creates for a harder way to get back on track. Allow yourself to not be 100% perfect in this because no one ever is.
Learn How to Come Back
Consistency doesn’t mean doing everything perfectly. Part of consistency is becoming better at returning to the things that help you when life pulls you away from them. Think about how different that feels. Instead of constantly worrying about falling off track, you start developing confidence that you know how to find your way back.
That’s something I want people to develop throughout their GLP-1 journey too. Nutrition, exercise, recovery, and daily habits aren’t going to look perfect every week. They don’t have to. A bump in the road doesn’t erase the road you’ve already traveled. Take a look at where you are, make the next useful decision you can, and keep moving forward.
