When you’re seeing progress on a GLP-1, it’s easy to focus on what’s disappearing. Pounds are coming off, clothes are fitting differently, and hopefully you’re starting to see some of the changes you’ve been working toward. Those things matter and can be exciting, but I also want you to think about your habits, confidence, understanding of your body, relationship with food, and even your comfort with exercise. A lot of things from what it sounds like, I know, but these are all factors important for what you want out of the experience. A GLP-1 can provide some help during your weight loss journey, but this is also an opportunity to learn what works for you and build habits that can continue supporting you along the way.
Build Something You Can Actually Live With
It’s tempting to change everything at once when motivation is high. New diet, five workouts a week, no snacks, more water, earlier bedtime…we’ve all seen how quickly that list can grow.
Please be warned, you don’t need to completely reinvent your life to make progress. Maybe you start by getting more protein into your meals. Maybe you find two or three days each week that realistically work for resistance training. Maybe it’s simply walking more, improving your sleep, or planning meals a little better than you did before. Those changes might not sound exciting, but that’s kind of the point. You’re looking for things you can actually see yourself continuing to do.
Consistency DOES NOT Mean Perfect
I see all the time the concept of consistency gets confused with never missing a thing. In that mix up of thinking, it’s a little unfair to not just to the process but yourself as a whole. You’re going to have busy weeks. Vacations happen. Work gets stressful. You might miss a workout, eat differently than you planned, or just have a day where your routine gets completely thrown off. That doesn’t erase everything you’ve already done.
Instead of asking yourself how you can be perfect all the time, start learning how to get yourself back on track when life inevitably gets in the way. That’s a skill too. The more times you practice returning to those habits, the more confidence you build in your ability to manage them.
Make the Journey Yours
Your GLP-1 journey doesn’t need to look exactly like somebody else’s. Your training doesn’t either. Neither does your nutrition. Take the opportunity to figure out what works for you. Pay attention to what makes you feel better, what fits realistically into your life, and what you’re able to stay consistent with. Make adjustments when something isn’t working instead of immediately assuming you’ve failed. No matter where your GLP-1 journey takes you, I want you to come away from it with more than a different number on the scale.
