Unlocking Performance from the Ground Up Pt. 2: Hips

Athlete performing 90/90 hip mobility exercise at Training Aspects gym to improve hip rotation and control.

At Training Aspects, we see it all the time. Clients with tight hip flexors, weak glutes, poor hip rotational control, all ailments that lead to further inefficient movement, compensation, and if not taken care of, injury. The hips are a central hub in the kinetic chain, connecting your lower body to your core. When they’re not working well, the body shifts stress to your knees, lower back, or even the ankles. Having knee pain? There is a great chance your muscles around hips and thighs are super tight creating this.

Healthy hips provide more than just flexibility. They allow you to load properly in a squat or lunge, create power in a sprint or jump, and rotate cleanly during cuts, swings, or throws. By training and strengthening the hips’ mobility and  stability, you give yourself the ability to move with greater control and producing more force, pain free. Whether you’re an athlete or just looking to move better in daily life, taking care of your hips is one of the best long term investments you can make.

Below are 5 simple exercises to help you unlock your hips. These are designed to improve your hips movement, stability, and overall health. Add them to your regular training and start noticing the difference:
