Top 3 Things to Maximize Your Hockey In-Season Program

It’s easy to lose track of what you should be doing during the season once all the chaos starts, but it’s important that you at least keep up these 3 tried and true techniques! Focus on strength through your movement, don’t over condition yourself, and create an injury resilience focus!

Movement Strength

Doing random max out lifts in-season is not going to help you and most likely will hurt you as your body is already beaten down from the season. Instead focus on improving your strength through different movements! This can be done by adding rotation to your squats or deadlifts or a weight shift to your bench and rows! This allows for you to not only gain strength but also advance your movement ability all while not over taxing the central nervous system.

Cut Out Excessive Conditioning

Intense conditioning should of already been done all summer! This is when the body is primed and ready to crush a strong training program with intense conditioning pieces! Do this during the season will just burn your body out even faster and reduce performance on game days. You can add in some light conditioning here and there but same the heavy conditioning for the off-season.

Injury Resilience Focus

Your main goal of the in-season should be stay injury free! If you’re not on the ice then you can’t perform at all. It’s vital that you create injury resilience during the in-season. This doesn’t mean just do less or don’t do anything extra. You actually want to do exercises that will build up resilience through the joints, especially the hips and ankles. This will take pressure off the knees and lower back and help take your game to another level!

Keep these 3 things in mind when designing your in-season program and you should have your best year yet! Any questions feel free to reach out! You can also schedule a complimentary movement/goal assessment to see where your movement baseline is and how to properly set goals for the season! Thanks for reading!
