Elite Hockey Core Performance Workout

To maximize your Hockey core performance, add these 4 exercises into your training program. Strengthen your core stability in movement. Core strength for hockey, is trained best in movement. **Complete the movements with purpose**

1. Ripper speed shot– Break down the movements, back foot pivots, snap the hip, torso twists and don’t let the ripper pull you back- guide it back. Increase your rotation stability and power for shooting on the ice.

2. Pallof press– Use the amount of resistance that’s challenging for your skill level. Stabilize yourself in the position slow the movement down. Keep your body weight centered, the hips will try to shift the weight to one side.

3.Jump lunge med ball Rotation– Great exercise to see the fluidity of movement through the body in a complex movement.Allow the torso to twist when in the air, limit the body leaning.

4. Stability Ball Plank Saw– a nice change up from the basic plank position. Stabilize in the plank position. Once you start “sawing” or extending your arms feel your feet grip the floor and your body to feel like its pulling both ends apart.

Don’t get overwhelmed with each movement and how much or how little movement is being produced. However, having awareness will help understand when something isn’t working. The body’s ability to integrate the systems that allow for optimal performance is extremely important. To begin to integrate the systems is a process but you have to start somewhere. Learn to bring awareness to the body when working out and see amazing results.

The many hockey players we work with that are looking to skate faster, hit harder, shoot the puck harder and have greater endurance on the ice. To unleash the potential, a program must be developed that over years continues to improve our body’s ability to continue to improve.
