Can a genetic test help you lose weight?

A proven weight loss system?

Can a genetic test help you lose weight?

No more guessing! Take a simple DNA test, swab your cheek and find the diet for you! Dieters can buy a test for $170, the test will give you a diet blue print for your genetic make up.  A study conducted by the company “Interleukin Genetics” and presented at the 2010 meeting of the American Heart Association found women whose diets matched their genetic test results lost two to three times more weight than those whose diets were supposedly incompatible with their genes.

Sounds promising?

You won’t find many people who will argue against genetic testing, to find a specific diet that will keep you healthier, greater energy and overall take the guess work out of the process. However, not yet!

Scientists are only beginning to uncover the genes involved in obesity and weight loss. We are far from the time when this information will be useful to everyone, said Dr. Lee Kaplan, director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Weight Center in Boston.

Interleukin Genetics, started selling their weight-management genetic test in 2009.  it has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

The company says it reviewed scientific studies and identified four genes related to body weight, body mass index or body fat that had also been implicated in how people responded to diet and exercise. These genes are involved in the breakdown of carbohydrates and the absorption or metabolism of fat in the body.

To buy or not to buy?

If you feel like you’ve tried everything and you don’t know where to turn, sure try it. There is also the metabolic typing diet you can look into.

However,

As Dr. Kaplan stated, there isn’t enough information. The best way to lose weight and get fit is to find the proper guidance. Do your research and locate a personal trainer who has experience, the updated knowledge and most importantly cares about your goal as much if not more than you do! Begin personal training, learn the fundamentals and make it a lifestyle change!

So you are saying I shouldn’t buy?

Not yet! Give the researchers a little more time to find, analyze and connect the pieces together. We live in such a fast paced world, that we put more value on convenience than, our health. Focus in and though any weigh loss journey or getting fit adventure takes work. To achieve the things you want and the things you may need, working hard is just a part of the journey. The journey is the reward!

What Boxing Means to Me-Part 5: The Itch to Get Back in the Gym

Part 5: The Itch to Get Back in the Gym In 2018, I was promoted at work. Just ten weeks later, I was demoted for something completely out of my control. It hit me hard… for about ten minutes. Then I did what boxing had always taught me to do, roll with the punches. I…

Unlocking Performance from the Ground Up Pt. 1: Ankles

Your ankles are the first point of contact with the ground, playing a key role in balance, shock absorption, and force transfer. If they’re stiff, unstable, or weak, it doesn’t just affect the ankles, it creates a ripple effect that can lead to issues in your knees, hips, or lower back. At Training Aspects, we…
