Top 4 Ways to Build Stability in the Developing Athlete – Part 4

In part 3 we focused on how training all three planes of motion can really help take your game to another level! This can improve speed, efficiency and explosiveness! Today we’ll break down how training barefoot can help your game and really take your stability and performance to the next level!

 

Barefoot Training for Performance

Training barefoot (or in socks) is a great way to wake up your foots muscles, tendons and ligaments while strengthening them and increasing their awareness! Your awareness and understanding of how to interpret the ground is a highly underutilized training tool. The improved foot strength and awareness can greatly improve proprioception, balance, speed, explosiveness, and injury prevention!

Top 3 Barefoot Training Exercises

Towel Grabs

This exercise helps strengthen the foot muscles and increase awareness and strength of the toes. 

Toe Splay

This exercises helps open up and increase the mobility of the toes and foot. The bigger your toe splay the more balance and strength you’ll have throughout your foot.

Arch Activation

Got flat feet?? This is the exercise for you! Flat feet is mostly caused by a lack of muscle development in the foot (specifically the arches. Build up your arch strength and start to help improve your flat feet and overall performance!
