Don’t just workout – Train
There are many ways to accomplish successful results. Many believe high-intensity training is the most important. If the workout was effective, some of the signs are being out of breath, how much sweat was produced, or how sore they felt the next day. Yes, challenging the body is important, the principle of overload. A discussion for a different time, but the question is, are you working out or are you training… Here are 3 ways to find out without getting sweaty or out of breath.
No fitness or performance progressions:
Many workout plans are either based on 2 body parts then some cardio at the end or something they found online. Unfortunately, this is working out. Training is based on an assessment. Identify strengths, weaknesses, and create a path for success. Everyone starts in different places. Create a training program that creates a path to the vision and ultimately sets up for success!
No fitness or performance results:
The toughest conversations are the ones where the individual has given up on training. They trained consistently but never got results! It’s good to work out, but as mentioned in the earlier point, there must be a starting point, a vision, and a path connecting the two. Just exercising will not do the trick.
Sports performance and fitness Plateau:
This often occurs when a workout has no direction. Often training programs have cycles. For example, 3 weeks in an endurance focus phase, then a deload week, that transitions into a strength week. It’s important to adjust the intensity of the workout; if the intensity has been high for a few weeks, turn it down for a week a bit and then increase it the following week.
Training is essential:
It is important to work out, to start exercising. It is also important that the program being followed is developed with proper progressions, goals, and an understanding of how it’s supposed to be completed.
