What Boxing Means to Me – The Finale: The Birth of TA Boxing

Part 6: The Birth of TA Boxing

If you asked me a few years ago where I’d be today, living out a childhood dream, something I wrote a paper on in college… actually having a boxing program built on brotherhood, mindset, and purpose… I probably would’ve laughed.

But life has a funny way of bringing you right to where you belong… especially when you have the courage to take a risk and start over again.

At a Crossroad

In August of 2023, I was at a major crossroad. I had grown into a man working on the railroad for 13 years, and had a growing family… wife, kids, and a dog to feed, but deep down, I knew I wasn’t where I was supposed to be… I often felt burned out,  mentally drained and unhappy. In August of 23′ I was in a situation where I had no choice but to bet on myself and step away from the security blanket that I had come to know so well. And even though it made no logical sense to anyone but myself, I took a leap of faith and resigned.

No plan. No backup. Just a lot of hustle and faith.

To make ends meet, I did anything and everything, long days, long nights, odd jobs, whatever it took. But inside, I knew I was searching for something deeper… something that would refill the tank and lead me to my purpose.

Reconnecting with Ki

That same month, while sitting poolside at my dad’s, we were talking about boxing. Ki and Vadim, two brothers I came up boxing with, came up in the convo. I looked Ki up on Facebook and shot him a message.

Two days later, I walked into Training Aspects.

18 years had passed since I last saw my dog, but right away, it felt like no time had passed. Within minutes, Ki asked if I wanted to train. I was expecting a traditional lift, some squats, deadlifts, maybe even hit the bench. But what I got was humbling… Explosive, fast paced, athletic movements with no rest between sets. High energy and high output, a wake up call that I wasn’t who I used to be.

running, jogging, sprints, boxing

Ki offered to train me every morning at 5 a.m. Monday through Friday and I was there! We locked in, Side by side and started a 5 am crew. We trained hard and consistently just like we did as kids. But this time, I wasn’t training for sports and boxing. I was training to take care of my mind, my health, and my spirit, so I could show up as the man my family needed.

The gym became the outlet. The training gave me clarity and brought the sleeping dog in me back with hunger.

The Seed is Planted

TA Boxing wasn’t built with a business plan or some big launch. It started when Ki brought me out to the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum to lead a boxing session with a few hockey teams for bonding and team-building. That moment reminded me how powerful boxing could be, not just as a workout, but as a way to build confidence, connection and brotherhood.

Around the same time, we began training boxing again, first out of Hollydell, then in Voorhees. No real setup. Just one heavy bag, a couple pairs of gloves and mitts, hand weights, and a whole lot of shadowboxing and calisthenics. No fancy gear, no ring, just a few guys grinding, growing, and laying the foundation for something that was real.

Program Growth

As the boxing sessions grew, so did the vision. TA Boxing has been growing organically, from an empty room with no boxing equipment to a room full of men showing up not just to box, but to build themselves. It grew because it was rooted in the same values boxing had given me since I was a kid. Brotherhood. Accountability. Growth.

Boxing gave me everything I needed to find my path again.
And now, it’s giving others that same opportunity. I’ve been around boxing since I was an infant. But building TA Boxing gave it new meaning! Coaching everyday men and women. Watching them push through struggles. Seeing them walk confident with intention and live stronger. Not building amateur or prize fighters but building fighters who battle through life.

Boxing Family

More Than Boxing

That’s what this is all about.

This isn’t just a gym, its more than boxing. TA Boxing is a mindset. A community of men and women committed to continuously growing and developing as humans through boxing.

We’re just getting started and if you’re reading this wondering whether you should take that step…
The answer is yes. Start now.

That wraps up the “What Boxing Means to Me” mini-series But the journey is just beginning.
