Train with Purpose…Don’t Just Workout…Top 3 Ways

There is a lot of noise out there! So it’s easy to get distracted by the cool social media exercises you saw or random online programs that promise results or maybe what your friends said they saw was best. The problem with randomly doing these things is exactly that, it’s random and may not align with your goals or current movement abilities! By randomly doing exercises you think are cool or following random programs you’re much less likely to get the results your looking for, keep consistent and build good habits as well as more likely to get injured!

Know Your Goal and Your Plan

First and foremost you need to set your goals and what your plan is to get to them! Make your goals S.M.A.R.T. Which means they need to be specific, measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time bound! This will make sure your goals are not opinionated and ensure you’ll understand how to achieve them or adjust them as you go!

Design a Proper Program

This part can definitely get a little tricky! There so many ways you can go but that’s where you go back to your goals! Wanna increase speed? Specifically in the 40 yard dash. Then you know you’ll need to put in some short distance sprints at least 2x a week. As well as other explosive plyo techniques. But don’t only focus on that! It’s important to still build a strong overall foundation so add in some lifts 2x a week as well as movement/core specific workouts to balance out the program!

Focus On Intentional Reps

While actually working out this is where you need to be the most focused! Every rep you do should be done with intention! This mean’s focusing on how the muscles are stabilizing and contracting during the exercises or how your knees, ankles and hips feel on your jumps and landings. This will be crucial to not only maximizing your results but also preventing injury so that you can hit your goals! There is so much more that can go into the planning and execution of a top sports performance program but this is a quick guide to get your head going in the right direction of where to start! If you have any questions on goal setting, program design or how to get more intentional with your reps, don’t hesitate to reach out! We’re always here to help!
